Broom Day

I just heard this story on NPR.
Once every 99 years or so, the Earth’s magnetic field will allow a broom to stand upright on it’s own. This occured this time around on October 26th–but the trick is still working today and is speculated to stand through Hallowe’en.

Give it a try!

  1. I also heard the story on NPR, or technically, on “As It Happens,” from the CBC, rebroadcast on NPR. Can't find much information about Broom Day on the internet. Nothing about the “once every 99 years” part.

I also don't have a decent broom with which to try the experiment. šŸ˜¦

  2. Okay… this is too freakin' weird! I didn't have a straight-bristle broom, but I pulled an old slanted-bristle broom out of the cupboard and gave it a try.

Didn't even have to fuss with it. It's almost like it wants to stand up by itself.

  3. I'm happy your experiment worked!
